Ipso Facto is the study association for and run by students who study International Development Studies, Communication Science, the master International Development Studies or the master Development and Rural Innovation at Wageningen University.
By joining us, you can participate in the different social and educative activities we organize for our members. We organize drinks, debates, excursions, parties, educational movie nights and of course the legendary weekends like the hitchhiking weekend and the first years weekend! Very popular as well are our Charity Party and our gala. All these activities provide the opportunity to get to know your fellow students in an informal way, or to participate in educational activities to complement your study field!
Ipso Facto was founded in 2000. In 2000 the association started out with just over 60 members. Today we’ve grown to have more than 500!
If you’re eager to expand your own abilities, you can become a member of one of our eleven committees. This is a great opportunity to actively participate in Ipso Facto. Not only does this look good on your CV, but it is above all a great way to get to know your fellow students better and achieve new skills!
Ipso Facto is a Latin phrase and means, literally translated, ‘itself fact’. To put it more nicely: ‘by the fact itself’, or ‘by that very fact’. It is used in literature, philosophy, law and science, when a certain phenomenon is a direct consequence of the action in question. To give an example:
“Whatever the captain does is right ipso facto [i.e. because it is done by the captain], and any opposition to it is wrong, on board ship.” —R. H. Dana.
